Scam Alert

MARCH 29th 2024 - We at the Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging are committed to safeguarding our community from fraudulent activities. Recent reports have highlighted a disturbing scam targeting Vermonters enrolled in Wellcare programs. Fraudsters are impersonating Wellcare representatives, threatening the discontinuation of essential services like Meals on Wheels unless personal information, such as Social Security numbers and addresses, is provided. Additionally, there's been an alarming trend of older Vermonters being coerced into purchasing large amounts of gift cards, leading to significant financial losses. We urge everyone to remain vigilant, educate themselves and their loved ones about these scams, and report any suspicious activity to the proper authorities.
