Representative Payee Program
Helping clients manage their benefits safely and securely
The SVCOA Representative Payee Program is authorized by the Social Security Administration and the Vermont Department of Disabilities, Aging, and Independent Living to help individuals who are unable to manage their own financial benefits due to a physical or mental health condition.
This service ensures that each person's basic needs are met—while promoting financial stability and long-term well-being.
Who It’s For
This program serves beneficiaries who are medically determined to be unable to manage their finances independently. A healthcare provider must confirm the need for support.
What the Program Does
SVCOA’s Representative Payee staff manage the client's Social Security or other designated income to ensure that:
-
Rent, utilities, and housing costs are paid
-
Food and medical needs are met
-
Essential expenses like clothing and transportation are covered
-
Any remaining funds are set aside as a personal allowance for the client’s independent use
This balance helps individuals maintain their independence and continue living in the setting of their choice.
Our Goal
The goal of the Representative Payee Program is to provide:
-
Immediate financial stability
-
Ongoing peace of mind
-
A greater sense of control and independence for the beneficiary
