The Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging (SVCOA) offers robust internship and mentorship opportunities across multiple programs, providing students and emerging professionals the chance to make a real difference in the lives of older Vermonters. AVAILABLE INTERNSHIP POSITIONS

Position Title: Communications & Development Intern
Location: Hybrid 
Duration: 90 hours per academic semester
Description:
As a Communications and Development intern, you will support agency fundraising, development and public relations work, and support and adhere to the mission and values of SVCOA. The intern will assist with various marketing campaigns, assist with content creation, and help analyze market trends. You'll gain exposure to digital marketing, social media strategies, and brand positioning.

Requirements:

  • Pursuing a degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms

Position Title: Case Management Intern
Location: In Person
Duration: Minimum of 90 hours per academic semester
Description: As a Case Management Intern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of professionals to support clients in need of assistance. You will gain hands-on experience in case management, providing direct support to clients, helping with documentation, and assisting with various tasks related to client care and service coordination.

Requirements:

    • Pursuing a degree in Social Work, Psychology or Sociology
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Empathy and a passion for helping others.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist case managers in developing and implementing individualized care plans for clients.
  • Conduct client intake interviews and document relevant information.
  • Helped coordinate services for clients, including referrals to community resources.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files and documentation.
  • Support the assessment and evaluation of client needs, progress, and outcomes.
  • Participate in team meetings and case reviews, providing insights and updates.
  • Communicate with clients, families, and external partners to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including scheduling appointments and data entry.
  • Assist with client advocacy and follow-up as needed.

Position Title: Nutrition & Health Promotion Intern
Location: Remote | Hybrid
Duration: 90 hours per academic semester
Description: As a Nutrition and Health Promotion Intern, you will gain practical experience in promoting healthy lifestyles through nutrition education, wellness initiatives, and community outreach. This internship will allow you to work closely with health professionals to support the development and implementation of nutrition programs, assist with client assessments, and contribute to various health promotion projects. It is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing a career in nutrition, public health, or related fields.


Requirements:

  • Pursuing a degree in Nutrition, Health Science, Public Health or Health Promotion
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present information.
  • Passion for promoting health and wellness in the community.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, development, and execution of nutrition and health promotion programs.
  • Help prepare and deliver educational materials, workshops, and presentations related to healthy eating and lifestyle choices.
  • Collaborate with community organizations to promote nutrition initiatives and wellness campaigns.
  • Support the creation of social media content and marketing materials for health promotion efforts.
  • Help with research and data collection on nutrition and health trends.
  • Assist in tracking and analyzing the effectiveness of health programs and client progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of client consultations and educational materials.
  • Participate in team meetings; contribute to the ongoing development of nutrition programs.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM TIMELINE

Internships are offered in the spring, summer, and fall.

Spring

  • Applications Close: November 1st
  • Internship start and end date: mid-January through early May

Summer

  • Applications Close: March 1st
  • Internship start and end date: early June through mid-August

Fall

  • Applications Close: July 1st
  • Internship start and end Date: early September through mid-December

    No, our internships are designed for students so prior experience is not required.
  • Are internships paid?
    Yes, we offer a competitive stipend for all internship positions.
  • Can I intern remotely?
    We offer both in-person and remote internship opportunities depending on the role.
  • Will I be offered a full-time position after the internship?
    While we cannot guarantee full-time employment, some of our interns are hired permanently based on their performance.
